The best way to test them is to check the speaker for continuity. If it doesn't have continuity then it's bad, if not you need to start looking for a broken wire. Did they start to crackle and pop?
As far as which ones to get, your truck takes 6 1/2 inch round coaxials in the back. I would recommend Polk db651 for the rears. Right now Circuit City has a deal going, buy one pair get the second pair half off. 150 dollars for the 6.5's in the back and the 5.25's in the front shipped to your house. Search on any website: (db 651 for the rear) (db 521 for the front) |
So ideally I should replace the front door speakers too I guess, correct? Will the db 521's fit directly in there without any mods?
Thanks! |
The QC doors have 5.25 round speakers in them. Front doors on an 2001.5 have 6x9s (at least the 3 or so I've seen), although a 6.5 is an easy size to put in there with a quick homemade baffle (plywood).
Ideally you should concentrate on the front speakers as that is where you want the majority of the sound coming from (unless you stand backwards at concerts). I don't even use the back speakers in my truck. |
I don't use the back right now either lol88 but it would be nice to have some sound from them.
I'm looking for the new speakers now. Thanks! |
Put a nice set up front with a decent amp @ around 75-100w/ch and you'll forget all about those back speakers :rocking: It all boils down to your personal preference though. Good luck. Can't go wrong with the Polk Momos, good sounding set if you like them. I still recommend to everyone to listen before you buy though if at all possible.

I know nothing about car audio. Where would you even put the amp?

One day I'll figure out the photos on this site and load up a few of my truck and interior. If you haven't been banned from that other forum I've got pics up in their gallery. |
I have two Pheonix Golds, I pulled out the little package tray under the Quad Cab seats and bolted them to the floor on either side of the tranny tunnel.
As far as rear speakers go, I have a little more power going to my rears than the fronts so that I get more of a surround feel than if I am just listening to the fronts. |
My amp sits under my driver seat
