What's the difference in the regular and High Output engines?

What's the difference in the regular and High Output engines?
I know the HO cam with the manual tranny and had more power, but how did Cummins give this engine more power? I'm looking for a long block to rebuild. If I use my current fuel injection setup on the new block, can I use any ISB325 block/heads, or do I need the HO block/heads to keep the HP power?
