I'm in the process of rebuilding my first engine, an 04.5 (05) common rail. I have a question though... The only thing I seem to be missing is the bushing/bearing for the connecting rod/wrist pin. Should I get these changed?

it is not always required if you have any doubt let your machine shop spec them

 

I did my 12 valve and had the machine shop do them. Figured everything else is new why stop with those. He got them and fit them for me.

 

I'm kinda leaning towards "everything else is new" but it's our long weekend (our equivalent to the 4'th)... I think maybe I'll try not to be impatient. I'll do a test fit ith one of the new wrist pins and see.

Machine shops are usually REALLY affordable anyway... Cant hurt, at least you know you did everything right... right??

I spoke to the machine shop, and went with their advice of leave those alone. Bottom end finished tonight, and engine rolled to work on the top end in the next few days. Waiting on ARP's before I can put on the head...

 

Get that together already........

OK. Engine has been together for a long time now, but due to work and family issues, hasn't been installed. Until yesterday. Found a few issues along the way to distract me (rear axle bearings and seals, front unit bearing). Haven't managed to get the front unit bearing off, despite a lot of trying. Damn thing is just proving very, very stubborn. May have to wait till the truck is running (still want to do some fuel line work, filters, etc.) and do the power steering trick. Ugh. Hate that. I want to be able to drive it when it is back together. Located some springs for the rear axle (one of the springs was badly destroyed). Still a bit of work for me to finish it... Thought it was time for an update.
