I need to know if my 1986 6.2L diesel is just slow or if there is something causing it to be slow. When driving I have to have my foot about 3/4 of the way to the floor for it to pick up speed. Its a 3 speed 300 transmission. There is apparently not a passing mode as I have mashed the pedal and it never kicks down a gear. This truck with no weight will get to 55MPH but it just seems slow to me. I have to floor the gas pedal just to keep up with people when a light turns green. Any help would be great.

The transmission should be a turbo 400 , most of the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks had 4:10 gears from the factory. The 85 I had would do about 75 , but that was pushing it pretty hard. The 6.2 only had 170hp, so power and speed are not easy to come by. I have a friend that has a suburban with the Banks turbo kit on it , and it runs much better than the stock 6.2

Ok thanks. I thought it was just me. This is my first diesel truck so I know next to nothing about them except for it has a lot of torque and gets pretty good fuel mileage.
