Default Total Newbe need help

Hello, my neme is Joe and I am a total newbe to diesels and am not even sure I am on the corrredct board except I saw LLY somewhere in the glove box.
I believe I had turbo cough and now it is in limp mode and the CEL is not on. Where do I fine the codes and how do I access them.
Sorry about the newbe question but most of this sounds like Greek to me. I guess if I talked 914's to you it would sound the same.
Thanks in addvance.
Joe

You need to get a code reader, places like autozone and o'reilys will read your codes for you without charge, but you need to find out what the codes are before we can help

So it wasn't working and I was supprised and then frustrated and after beating my head aginst the wall I looked like this but still I had some questuions that were driving me nuts yet I didn't want to beat up the truck or tell someone to because I knew my feature online help would be seeing stars
So I have learned a lot sence my first post. I have located a port for a scaner and was loaned on by my nefpew. It is a Can Scan II and it only left me with about 20 questions. It did find the VIN but it also said something about an I/M or was that an M/I. Anyway I'll ask my nephew about instructions or look into their wedsite tomorrow. I just need more input. If you are still reading thank you very much I hope you at least found something entertaining.

So torrow never came but tomorrow did and I did not buy a scanner. I had another truck that needed the attention more. I had the oil changed along with a fuel filter and that did nothing for the real problem. My race car driver came over and looked at the truck and spotted a connector that had been blown off at the exit of the intercooler. Took about 20 minutes and all is well again. Now I know more about what to look for and am a better diesel driver.
Thank you for reading.
