Default White smoke and no power!!!!

I have a 1990 7.3 IDI that is constantly smoking white. It also has no power under a load (general driving not towing), and begins running rough at higher RPMs. I am a newbie to diesels and am at a loss. We bought the truck on a whim hoping we could get it running good for light duty pulling a tractor to our hunting club and back and work around the farm. Any help from you guys will be greatly appreciated.

mileage? most likely a worn out fuel system.

sounds like timing also.... if injectors come out good... someone could have advanced the timing too far and you would run terrable on the top end.... like advancing a distributor too far...... probably get the injectors checked out and go from there I would say ...... maybe run some aft thourgh your filter as well.... just empty out and fill with atf... make sure engine is warmed up ..... then start er up and give it some rpm's ..... run about 2k or so for a minute....... might clean some of the crap out of the system... prolly all carboned up..... give it a try its cheep.. and repetable ... can do it a few times with one quart
