Default ball bearing turbo or should I care?

Looking to make 400-450 hp on a pmr 2001. I run a manual trans. so do I need a ball bearing turbo for quicker spooling or should I even care? Are all the aftermarket tu7rbos ball bearing, they don't seem to say? Been looking at a 38r and the s366 or even bigger Irate kits. Any suggestions before I start making calls? Probably will run 238/100's or a touch smaller with whatever I get for turbo.

The 38r is a drop in ball bearing Turbo so you won't need a mount. I ran the 366 is not ball bearing. I ran one for a short time and really liked it. It should be a solid 500hp Turbo. I wouldn't worry to much about it being ball bearing or not.

For the 400 mark, I think a 38r would be a fine choice...

Ditto on the 38R for a 400hp goal.

If your goal is above 400, then shoot for a T-4 type mount.

will a maxed out 38r have higher egt's than a t4 with some more hp left in it? If a guy gets a 38r, what are the benefits of adding the .84 or the 1.15 turbine housing. keep in mind 238/100's or 205's for injector. If possible, Id like to have quicker spooling and lower egts than my stock turbo even though i'll have more injector on the motor. Thanks again for the valuable info.

joebob3093, curious what you switched to for a turbo? Didn't see one in your sig?

38R is about your best bet for a quick spooling turbo at that HP level. Leave the stock 1.00 housing on there.

The S366 Joe was running is a good turbo, I would not push it to the 500hp level without a wastegate however.

He is now running a larger S400 series turbo, not sure of the size. Its a 600-650hp level turbo.

I'm running a S468 right now. Went larger with the injectors so I stepped up the Turbo. I got it all from irate
