My build and results thread
I'm starting this as a record to everyone for some real world results after mods. So far I've fully deleted with a Mini Max with pyro and Overdrive, Sinister EGR and cooler delete, Shibby plugs, Diamond Eye DPF/Cat pipe, MBRP muffler delete, GDP CCV vent kit, K&N replacement filter and upgraded the front seat from. This month I'll also install a set of of the shelf 5100's, Custom Diesel steering brace, GDP tank vent kit and Tuff Truck Bag for long trips. I hate stopping for fuel and being beat up while driving; the vent kit and shocks should help with that. I'll also carry 3 additional full cans of fuel in the tool box and fill up when we stop for breaks; hoping that 50 gallons will get us to at least Houston. I've also added Putco window vents, Husky floor liners and Bully tailgate lock.
The first real test will be next month when my family heads out to Houston and Ft. Worth to see family and freinds (about 2500 miles round trip) when I'll be playing with the settings on the MM to see which provides the best economy. Tires are stock and will be set at 80. Suspension is also stock, other than the shocks; will give me a chance to see how much better the ride is. I'm hoping for mid 20's avg, what the 5.9's used to get without effort.
I'm thinking about switching over to EFI live; the H&S tuning is great for power but not economy. Heard absolutely nothing bad about EFI. This may also be the last trip with the stock tires and will be looking at options there (265 Duras are at the top of the list).
I'm also weighing the benefits of swapping turbos, bigger exhaust, higher flow intake and intercooler, etc. Not looking for higher power numbers, just more efficiency in everything the trucks is asked to do. My ultimate goal is to go over a million miles on the stock block and head (studded, of course) to prove the 6.7 has what it takes.
When I do a mod I'll update this thread, which may take a few years (many of you know how long these things can take) and may have long breaks in between updates; if you subscribe please have patience, but promise the updates will come.
Running tally so far is about $2,000 in parts; I did it all myself so no labor.

After deletes the truck sounded much smoother and happier. Straight pipes 6.7's have a much richer exhaust not, and not much louder than muffled. Anyway, sounds better than being chocked by all those filters.
That Monday took the truck on a 250 mi round trip to central FL; before deleted overhead averaged about 20; that trip avg went up to 25 (hit over 35 several times instant economy). In fairness, the trip down was FL 16 where the greatest increases were seen (averaged 55 mph). Comming back up 95, kept to speed limit and still saw 25 on the readout at steady speed (22 hand calculated). The overhead is notoriously optomistic, but is a good gauge to ballpark improvement. To recap, it went up 5 mpg steady average after deletes. I would say that was the single best improvement so far.
The second, and cheapest so far, was the front seat coushin fix. Did both seats in an hour and hit the road for a 700 mi round trip to AL that weekend; first time since owning the truck neither my wife or I had back problems. Total cost was $20.

Would love to say I found the magic bullet with the stock VGT, getting 25 mpg everywhere and level out DP and BP while having no HG issues without studs and OEM tranny all while making 500 RWH towing a 12k fiver for over 200,000 miles; all while spending less than a new set of 35 Toyo MT's cost.
Reality will probably push this north of $10,000 and result in swapping turbos, trannies and tuning. No free (or even reduced) lunch in this school; get ready to get bloody

Also waiting at home is a Custom Diesel steering brace that I got for $112 shipped. That, along with the shocks and tires, should do wonders for the ride and handling of the truck.
