i got a 1990 chevy 1500 with 6.2 diesel it runs and idles fine for hours but after driving it for a lil bit it loses power and then dies and wont start for another 10 mins...i changed the fuel pump and filter still having the same problem... any ideas? i was told something about a crank trigger

 

got this for 500 bucks but would only run for 5 seconds at the most finally gave up and stripped the truck good luck make sure the fuel filter is sealed and not allowing air into the system cheak all injector lines for any kind of leaks

 

do you have any fuel leaks? make sure the tank has fuel in it

 

Tank has fuel... there are no leaks from the sending unit up to the intake... its starting to look like either the crank trigger or sensor

 

check the iinlet sceen on IP, could be a stuck metering valve too

 

You've got a DB2 on that old hoss.

There is no crank trigger or sensors to affect the running. At least non that I know of.

You should be a 700r4 at best, so no sensors there either.

Off the top of my head and from the little info given here, your description sounds like a worn IP.

Next time it stalls out, try pouring some cool water over the IP. If it starts up, your IP is probably worn internally past service limits.

As the pump warms up from being worked (driven), internal clearances open up and it looses efficiency (pump pressure). The cooling water contracts the housing while the internals are still warm and tightens up the clearances. It will run again in this condition until it warms up again.

At least, that's the theory.

And it costs no money to try......except that it's not cheap to fix if that is the problem.....

 

I will try that after work 2maro... but it doesn't have a 700r4... its got a 3 spd manual trans with granny low

 

You are definitely "sensorless" except for those driving your dash gauges then....

when was the last time the oil was changed? my truck started stalling immediatley after i forgot to change the oil for about 6000 miles, thickened up and was enough to kill the engine. I change my fuel filter at about every 3000 miles with my oil, I have had fuel starvation because of a bunched up fuel filter. then again I dont know what youve already done to it.

 

No I haven't changed the oil yet
