83 ford 6.9. 462k rebuild at 420k at joplin missouri machine shop in 85. Bought from 2nd owner. Sat 12 years pre me. good oil pressure. no blow by. put two k on it. Surges chugs down hills. runs fine up hills and up to 40. doesn't chug at speeds above 60. Starts right up. new lift pump. Have installed clear lines and eliminated supply lines sucking air. purchased new injectors from pensacola diesel. ordered "A" they sent me "BB". figured they would work. chugged the same pre new injectors. runs a little smoother on take off. Installed clear lines behind return caps and to caps. Air is present after the injector return hats. no leaks at injectors. have installed new lines between hats and clamps. New injectors came with new orings. Installed hats gently with petroleum jelly. Is it possible the injection pump is pushing air? Or a weak pump with not enough pressure? I know there is a seal kit available for the pump. should I bother? If a new pump is needed does anyone know of a good/cheap place to get one?

Any advice will be appreciated.

yeah sounds lilke you IP is suckin some air.... I know a place here locally in milton washington called H&H diesel, they are great with these pumps, i bought my inj and my pump from them and havent had a sicngle issue yet... that was 20k ago... look them up

 

Got one new to me for the time being($100). Figured it would be a good investment even it didn't fix the problem. Came with new lines as well. Unsure on the miles. Came off a old farm truck. Seems to be holding up good. Thanks for the advice on the shop in milton. I will check it out.

 

I would replace the fuel lines from tank to manual pump....thats what I did... fixed it all the way... also get rid of the bowl style water sep... Baldwin BF-1222 replaces it and is awesome and 1 pc.no o rings...

 

Bypassed water separator with one off ebay. techno car brand Water separator/fuel heater/fuel filter. Heats to 90deg. placed it after factory fuel filter. my main tank has new lines to switch. Didn't affect anything. I know tractor supply has a couple for a reasonable price.

 

You might check all the lines comming outta the IP make sure there not loose ... could be picking up air there and also check the 1/4 in bolts on the side of the IP also... they can come loose too.. passenger side of the pump.

other than that I would have to say its the IP ....
