Hard Starting W/O Ether and Dead Pedal???
Hey guys, i am experiencing some problems with my 24v its in my 96 F350 and it wont start without ether. Then with a little courage it comes to life. ( I know ether is a killer, but it was experimental because it was the first time in the truck and brand new rebuilt engine.) Once it comes to life it runs and sounds fine, but every couple WOT's its dead and no throttle response. I am ordering an airdog next week and a FP gauge. I have a test FP and stupid stock lift pump only comes on after initial crank. Not right after the key is switched on? It will crank start to life for maybe 2 seconds and die. Thanks Guys ahead of time.
wow......
on to the issue here check to see if your getting full 12V power to the pump, when cranking dose it make a difference if you push the pedal or not and have you checked the fuel psi yet?

Need a pusher pump ASAP and fp gauge for sure... Can you scan for codes? Also, if you're spraying ether into your air filter or turbo that's probably not too smart, but it's a sure sign your lift pump is dead and probably only running a few psi when cruising.
I cant scan for codes yet i havnt wired in the obd port to scan for codes. I will shortly, ive been looking up the symptoms on blue chip dsl and it sounds like injection pump computer internals may need replacing. Because of the play in the dead pedal is through the entire range at random just not in one sport between idle and wot. Any thoughts?
It's really hard to say without codes or being able to drive the truck... I suggest parking it if possible until you can wire the OBD port and scan it, or else you may be in the market for a new vp44.
Yeah Im in the wiring out all the bugs stage right now. I have another used reman vp44 off another cummins motor, that runs fine but wasnt the same one on my rebuilt engine. I might swap it out this weekend along with the installation of a new airdog, and see what that does. Thanks empty wallet.
a vp really doesn't like much pressure when starting I am not sure when they did it but dodge has a flash for 98.5-99 trucks that didn't turn off the lift pump when cranking or to half power or something similar.
