ZF6 rcommended fluid - Stealership says 6 qts at 25 a pop
HI all. I am servicing the transmission fluid on my Zf6. I went to the stealership and they said full synthetic ATF and their brew is 25 a pop. I saw Mobil and Castrol I believe at the parts store at 9.97, said full synthetic Mercon compatible. Will these do? The stealership brew any better?
Any tips, caveats and gotchas? (I know remove the inspect/top plug first). I tried loosening this morning but was tight and I might need a breaker bar. I hope these are not reverse threaded, but I have puny arms. Can I use PB blaster or are there gaskets I have to worry about.
Thanks

Almost 6 qts just for the trans and just less than a qt for the transfer case. I'm using redline D4 ATF and am happy with it so far. Shifts are improved over the factory syn that had 10k miles on it.
Correction, the t case takes 2 qts so I must have that in there. Just fill it till you can feel fluid.

I would not run gear oil or motor oil in the trans, just ATF as recommended. Here's the red line fluid I'm running at almost $11 a qt:
