Default Newbie to site, purchased 2008 6.7 diesel

Hi I new to this site and I just bought a 2008 Dodge 2500 with the 6.7. I have briefly searched this great site to find out that gas mileage is not the best without doing some mods such as the deletes and a straight pipe exhaust. My question which mods are legal in CA? I would like to buy a controller but not sure which is best and will it help with horsepower and has mileage by itself. Thank you guy in advance for your suggestions

Chirp, Chirp, Chirp, [Crickets]
okay then let's hear it for the moment of silence for California and the EPA.

You better just get to know somebody really well, and when they're willing to risk their job for your gain, then you can have deletes/mods in CA. But I guarantee if a cop sees you blowing coal, I'm sure he'll slap the hippie ticket on you!

Not entirely true. Basic mods like CAI and DPF back exhaust are allowed. A tuner...maybe, but you'd have to run the factory ECU program or a low smoke program to pass emissions. Prolly no way you'd get away with EGR /DPF deletes or anything that changed your truck substantially on a visual exam as that's a fail.

There is no sniffer for diesel trucks here. Just the "snap test". If the emissions tech decides your truck visually puts too much particulate (ie: smoke) out the tail pipe when he revs the engine manually (throttle snap), you fail.

FYI I just smogged last summer, Banks CAI with scoop in place. No other mods. Passed np. Had a good long talk with the tech. The above is the highlights of the conversation. He also told me that the biodiesel fuel has LESS particulate matter from the get go. Happens to lubricate better too!

Exactly. IMO, DPF back and intake is not a mod, because it's not going to do a thing for you in the long run, which is the reason I'm having problems with mine right now ie: oil generation and short oil intervals. I just gotta cough up the G it's gonna cost and do it all at once. And biodiesel is nice if you're going to actually drive it all the time, but it has a short shelf life that can cause bacteria growth in your tank.
