I just bought a 97 F350 powerstroke 4x4 and it shifts funny sometimes it slides into the next gear and other times it clunks into gear. When I'm accelerating fast it will bang second then slide into third. But I've also been in second stepped on it hard and had it bang third. So I'm not impressed with this transmission I've now got the word out that I'm looking for a manual trans. I have the receipts from the previous owner who had it into the dealership and they supposedly fixed the trans. So I don't know if this is just what I should expect from a 200,000 mile F350. Or if I need to get something done before it leaves me stranded. Maybe I should look into getting it rebuilt. Also it's my first heavy truck so maybe I'm just driving it to hard. Either way I think I will be happier with a stick shift.
