As of rite know i have a 05 f350 diesel and ive had all the common expensive problems there known for. Im looking into getting a 5.9L dodge diesel what are the common problems for the dodges and the pros and cons of the them? Thanks for any input!!

 

Front ends are not very good, transmissions are a maybe.

honestly i have had them all ford chevy dodge and the dodges have always been easy to work on, and almost always its something non major. and i work my trucks pretty hard. the one thing some people dont like is the interior isnt as nice as the otheres. for me i want a truck not a sedan. good luck hunting

 

So far ive looked at an 05 but im looking off of price range and i want it to be already lifted. I dont want to have to lift it on my own. What years are good in the 5.9s.

So you would definetly recommend a dodge diesel by the sound of it out of all of them. And the only thing i dont like is the interior room. I would try and find a mega cab. i can deal with the interior.

 

the 2004.5 is the best common rail ive heard
but personally i love a nice lifted 2nd gen 12v easy to work on and they look bad a$$

 

Every year is good in the 5.9s IMO. Every gen as their own issue to take care off. It just depends on what gen you like the best.

 

I have an 07' 5.9L, Original Owner, 100K miles, Big Turbo, Decent Chip, Big Tires and some other junk, I Drive my Truck like a Truck, have 800 to 1000 lbs in the bed at any given time, I drive muddy, rutty, two track dirt roads daily, and haul an 11,000 pound boat (through the mountains) occasionally. I aint never had a lick of trouble with my Transmission or My front end The Truck is in the shop religiously every 3k miles for scheduled maintance, (oil change, Rotate tires, fluid checks, ect) Parts are going to wear out, trannys are going to break, and engines are one day going to just quit running no matter which make of truck you go with. Just follow some propper maintnance schedules and take care of your truck and it will bring you many years of honest reliable driveing.

 

I know any vehicles going to have there issues, but my ford that i have rite know has more than most its in the shop for the injectors, egr or something else about every 4 to 6 months thats why im looking into getting a dodge diesel.

 

If you're looking for a Mega Cab I would get an '06 with the 5.9. I dont like Dodge'es autos so I always say get a manual. Thats all i have ever driven in my Dodges. I like my truck to feel like truck and row through the gears. Id rather put a good clutch and not have to worry about it again. Every Dodge has its issues but every truck brand does. The most bullet proof one is a 12v. The nice thing about the Dodges is that any problem has already been identified and there is an easy fix for them all. The great thing about the Cummins is that every motor has parts from the last. Its not like Ford where they change the motor every year with something completely different from the last. A 12V part could bolt to a CR or even the 6.7 and vice versa. I have 6.7 parts on my 24v. I love my Cummins and I will drive them both til I die.
