I'm currently looking into buying a Dodge Ram Cummins pickup, also it will be my first Diesel pickup, but I'm not sure if I should go with the 2500 or 3500. I know I want it to be a quad cab 8' bed from the years 2006-2009 with around 60,000 or less mile on it. I plan on keeping this truck for a long period of time and putting many miles on it. If I do go with the 3500 I would be getting the Single Rear Wheel version not the Dually. It would be used to haul around my bike and quad, tow around my jeep and meet the needs you would generaly expect from a pickup used to work, haul and tow. Most of the 2500's I find are a few thousand cheaper than similarly option out 3500's. I know the 3500 would have a higher load and tow rating as well as heavier duty axles but I think the 2500 would be able to handle my needs still. So my question is what are the pro's and cons or major differences of each model that I might not be aware of since I have never owned either, and which one will best fit my needs to preform, be reliable and last for for a few hundered thousand miles. Thanks for any help in advance.

 

Sounds like a 2500 will fit your towing needs just fine. Unless you are intending to haul 20,000lbs around all the time, there is no reason for a 3500. You may get a nicer ride in a 2500, and won't be spending the extra few thousand.
I quick Google search relieved that most say the only difference is suspension.

 

What ^^^ said, You aren't towing heavy enough to really say you NEED a 1 ton... Either of them will do but if you can get the same options in a 3/4 ton, I'd say get that...

 

x2 and at least here in Pa registration and insurance is cheaper on a 2500 compared to a 1 ton

I Hate to be the bad guy,but I hauled a Camaro with a qc 2500 long bed on a 16' car trailer. It squatted the crap out of it. If you are gonna pull a Jeep go with the Ton.
BTW IT WAS 4x4.

 

so with the the few thousand you save buy some firestone bags for 250... problem solved!

 

or just load the trailer right, sounds like excessive tongue weight was the problem to me

 

i haul my 97 1 ton sled puller on a dual wheel tandem trailer with my 08 2500 but i load the truck backwards. if you ever need over loads get the air bags.

 

There's no axle differences in those trucks and suspension difference is minimal. Get bags and I wouldn't ever hesitate to pull whatever a 1 ton srw pulls. In your case I say go with what ever one presents itself first.
