Head Gasket Under Boost
Has anyone had any experience with blowing a head gasket in a 1st under boost? How much boost can they hold? I would also want to hear anyones is experience to building up a 1st gen....I'm would like to have 350hp in my truck before to long and the plan is to have the transmission squared away by the end of summer sense I am done with school and will be working fulltime. I would like to hear othes opinions and experience on fuel system upgrades as well has drivetrain upgrades.

some of those trucks pop below thirty, the build is all in what you want to spend, you can do whatever you want but ultimately your stock pump head is going to stall you out......then its time for a 14MM head, which means a 40 PSI minimum fuel system......some people have great success with the 14's, other dont make it out of the garage......

From the bunch I have seen and run, 40psi is pushing a stock head gasket to its limits in most situations...this is of course with the stock turbo, get a bigger one on there and you may be able to push 50, but is it worth the risk?
Drive pressures, EGT's, Fueling to hard, TIMING...they all have adverse effects on the HG. I blew the HG in my 97 with 16.5* timing and about 38lbs of boost in about a week after bumping the timing...now my 98 has 17* of timing and 40+lbs of boost with a stock charger, gasket, and manifold, and the HG has lasted about 100K miles like that. If you want to run higher numbers you'll need to eventually ring the head... Its just the price we gotta pay to play.
