Service Manuals
I got some great help from diesel bombers on changing a water pump, now I hope to get help on some service manuals. Chiltons is not a detailed as some others, but I've been out of the loop so long on repairs I could use help. My truck died in traffic towed home 2 days later ran great, next day died agin. New fuel filter, no water, bled air, tried starter fluid yes I know don't use it, but it let me know it was fuel not electrical. Can't afford to just changing parts, hopeing for tips on checking fuel rail pressure, pump pressure and so on, any help is appreasated lost job need truck for handy man work.
Thank you for a quick reply, I have a scaner dealer was charging 100.00 a scam yes scam. All it has is two a side glow plugs, even though it quit running 2 seperate times.
The weather was over 100 degrees shouldn't have needed them. In army 79-82 track vehical mechanic so very basic knowlege.

If you have a scanner that will read pids, freeze frames and data log you can watch the data when the truck dies and see where the failure is originating.
These trucks don't use lift pumps, you could buy a rail pressure gauge and watch otherwise you will need a scanner

Pid? I know I have the data readout I'll try starting the paper weight agin today, yesterday it stalled pretty quick thanks

Is that kpa what does you tool read in? The pid is just that, data for each sensors. I've got every peace of manuals for these trucks but we need to have a idea of the problem for the manual to help. That's why data logging helps , we can see the point of failure and determine what is happening to rail pressure when it stalls
Everytime you ask a question I run out to my truck an try to find the answer. I have a innova 3160 it read fuel pressure in psi I cranked agin, why????? but the fuel pressure was bounceing between 178, and 200 psi after I had stoped.
