starting hard 2002 6.6 duramax

we have a 2002 6.6 duramax chevy.
problem is it takes like 10 sec to start it. you turn and turn and it finaly starts. what should we check?

check your oil and see if it smells like diesel first. or of it is over filled.

^ yep start there. does it smoke when you finally get it to start? next time you try to start it pop the hood and pump the hand primer on the fuel filter to see if it is hard, might be sucking some air too.

oil leave is good and does not smell like fuel. do not belive its smoking when started. but will check when we check the fuel pump.
