Default 4L60 or 4L80?

not to good with trannys but i have a 1995 K2500 with the 6.5L. out of no where, i was driving and it would SLAM into second gear. but only second. shut the truck off, went to work, got ready to leave and it didnt doit again? completely confused.

anyways, so i called a couple scrap yards and they asked if i had a 4L60 or 4L80. is there a VIN code or easy way to detect which one i have?

thanks in advance!

4l80 as far as I know the only two trannys you can get behind a 6.5 is the 4l80 and NV4500.

thanks for the help, found out it was a 4l80 because it had 17 bolts on the tranny pan, rather than 16.

i know the older ones (94 and older) had a 700R4. if thats the case id figure the 4L60E would hold up to a 6.2 turbo in mine. atleast untill i abuse it.
