Default has anybody swapped something in place of the 5.9???

I just melted down the 5.9 in my 05 ram 3500 with only 95,000 on the ticker. Has anybody swapped something with more displacement in one of these trucks? I was running water/meth and a spearco intercooler, 5" exhaust, kn intake to try to help keep it cool. I was pushing 609 horse and 1120 pounds out of the poor lil 5.9 and towing at gcvw of 30k so its no surprise it burnt a piston. Question is do I rebuild the 5.9 and add a second turbo or make a project out of it and put something with more cubes in, like a cummins 500 ISX :-)

well considering the isx weighs almost have of your truck, id say "nein". youd need alot more tranny, which means alot of space.

would be pretty bad *** tho.

how 'bout a powerchoke? just kiddin'

maybe a c7 (3116 and 26 successor, so idk) or a dt360 or 466. id go with the 'binder engine peronally. you have emissions or inspections in boy-see? if not, its open game

dont know this to be 100%,but a mechanic told me that the 6.7 block and the 5.9 were the same.(i'm not a cummins guy so i don't know.) Picture this 6.7 displacement,5.9 heads(for the non EGR) Twins, and a P-pump. If a guy could make it all go together, could be a MONSTER!IMHO. What do ya'll think???

If your going to go through that much effort why bother with a p pump?

Didn't know if it could be done with a cr set-up or not. I was thinking about simplicity.

You stole my idea! But how bout an 8.3 CTD? Think I read somewhere a guy swapped one in and it turned into a monster puller. Gives me an idea though...

Or you could always jack a John Deeres' engine, just for laughs

LMAO! The olny bad thing about the 8.3L is they CANNOT stand turning a bunch of RPM's,Case combines used to have the 8.3,and they turned them about 3K.Those motors were notorious for shittin rods out of the block.

If you were going to make strictly a monster, I'd go P-pumped version of the DT466. Tractor pullers have been thrashing DT's for years and can make some brutal power at some decent RPM's. I think I read of a guy (possibly on this site!) that has an OBS Ford pulling truck with a DT466 shoehorned into it...

you'd need an awefully big shoe horn to stuff that mamo-jamma in there

Maybe you should just buy a 379 peterbilt with 3412 cat. That would get the job done..
