I have just upgraded to a Fast 220 fuel pump and hate it because it is too loud and I have not noticed much difference in performance. Has anyone else had the same experience? What type of fuel pumps have ya'll been impressed with.

 

I Have the Fass fuel pump as well, its on my 2003 dodge 5.9 im with you its pretty noisy and i used insolating rubber at the frame to help quiet it down, I pulled the fuse out when i was parked at a holiday inn in houston tx thinking the truck wouldnt start if some one tried to steal it as they had a vehicle stolen from there when i was there, i forgot about the fuse the next day and it started right up and drove on interstate with no noticeable differance in performance, What the h#ll I thought the pump wasnt even running and the cp3 was doing all the work. not sure if the pump is really needed now.

 

Thanks Crusty, I'm glad that I'm not the only one feeling like the Fass fuel pump is not worth all the noise its making. I'm really going to try to find out whether it is helping my performance out or not. If not I may just toss it. Keep me informed and let me know what you are going to do, if anything, with yours.

 

Do you have a big tuner? do you have injectors? if not then the FASS is just filtering and removing water from you fuel

A lift pump like the FASS or Airdog wont affect performance until your draining your fuel rail with a big tune and injectors, the idea is to make sure that the CP3 is always supplied with plenty of fuel, if you're not demanding more than stock then you will not need more fuel than what the stock lift pump can provide

Infact on Duramaxes there is no lift pump, the CP3 pulls fuel from the tank on its own, and you can make 450rwhp easily without a FASS or Airdog, after that you need the extra fuel pressure they provide in order to get more fuel to the cp3 and therefore keep the fuel rails full

As for the noise I have heard a few FASS pumps and I dont think they are all that noisy at all

 

i have a fass 150 and its annoying loud another guy i know has a airdog and you cant hardly hear his does it make a difference in noise with or with out filters mine dont have filters i took mine off running stock again i notice no difference either besides not beating the hell out of my ears

 

Air dog and fass are both loud I use both of them.

 

They got a unique sound alright.

 

put an exhaust and an intake elbow on it and and your truck will be louder than the FASS, if you upgrade to a programmer you will be glad you have it so it keeps your fuel rails full

 

alex is right. If you get more air in the front and let more out the back then you might as well put some fuel with it. my truck is in my sig, the only time i hear my pump is for about 5 seconds when i turn the key to the on position before starting. i am perplexed as to why a 220. I got the 150 bc it's my understanding that a 150 will adequately supply fuel up to about 1100 hp and the 100 will supply up to like 700hp, with stock filtering but i have aftermarket filtering so i went with the 150, but if you are getting above 500 hp, is it really going to be all that quiet period? But i have a different outlook on it than some people. I have never once heard a piece of heavy equipment idle up and be quiet, nor have i ever stood by a quiet jet engine. power makes noise just like friction makes heat and women spend money. they are just facts of life

 

I have a fass Rapture and just changed the stock fuel filter to a 2mc and I guess I never noticed the noise if it had any ... my turbo and huge NAPA 2790 filter
also all springs and cam plate #5 and custom marine injectors changed and a custom turbo housing and had the timing changed to about 22 deg
So I have a lot of noise going on .. I forgot the 4" exhaust without a muffler ... but that is only making real noise when I hit the fuel or use the exhaust brake
so if your pump is making noise over what I have to listen to ... I would do as the other guy said to do .. is make sure you have all the air out of the lines and the rubber on the frame ... I used a rubber wrap to make sure the pump would not get loose and also the pump lasts longer without heavy vibration with it turned up to 35lbs .. can not run 50 .. do not like the smoke and it tuned for that much pressure
do you have your pump turned up all the way and did not set your timing?
