i do not have any pics of removing the vacuum/power steering pump from the truck

to remove the pumps from the truck, you must disconnect the power steering lines from the gear box, and where the lines connect for the hydro boost brakes.

there is a support bracket that mounts to the block and is connected by one of the power steering nuts. there is an oil feed line that goes into the bottom of the vacuum pump that needs removed also. lastly, remove the two bolts that hold the pump to the timing case. then remove pumps



remove the 4 nuts that hold the power steering pump to the back of the vacuum pump and pull the pumps apart







then you will remove the two bolts holding the vacuum pump together and u will split it apart



start out by removing this piece



from the pump



to do that, take a deep wall socket and knock it out like so



there is a seal inside and an o-ring on the outside that needs to be changed.



to get the inner seal out, use a socket to knock it out like so



now its time to go back together with it. replace the o-ring on the outside. install the inner seal the same way it was removed.



then put a little oil on the seal and o-ring, then reinstall it into the vacuum pump using a socket to knock it into it



replace the o-ring on the gear side of the pump



the mate the two sides back together making sure you line the slot up



do not force it. it will go together easy if everything is line up right. put the two bolts back in and tighten them down.

next you will mate the power steering and vacuum pump together. make sure they are lined up, and spline together all the way. do not force it.

now you reinstall it onto the truck

 

Yeah, this is a job that I will be doing soon. Mines is leaking and dripping oil on my driveway It looks to me like it could be a bitch of a job getting in there to get the pump out.

 

ya, it can be a pita. but when you have done as many as me, it gets alot easier . but i still forget the support bracket half the time

 

Has anyone that has done this job noticed how thin the large o-ring is? It doesn't look like the two halves will squeeze that o-ring very well, if at all. How are you guys sealing that joint?

 

i rebuilt mine 2 weeks ago and it hasnt leaked since

 

I split the pumps on the truck and left the PS lines connected and just pulled the vac pump and resealed it, not easy but it can be done
