Default 5 speed swap?

Has anyone converted their automatic truck to a zf5? Today somebody gave me a 94 ford f350 powerstoke, and its a 5speed 4x4, my trucl is the auto, and uve heard that the zf5 is almost bulletproof, to anyone with a 5speed truck, do you love it? How much better milage does a 5 speed get? How are the gear ratios? Is this a good idea or not? thanks

It's quite a bit of work just to have a 5speed. Do a search on here, this has been covered many times... I considered putting a 5speed in my truck but decided it wasn't worth the work...

if you have the time, know-how, correct tools, and a reasonable place to perform it, then knock her out. i say go for it, if you have all these. or a good friend

I still need to get a little more info on my swap. My donor is a 93 idi and they say i have to use a psd flywheel and clutch which is fine i just want to confirm. And someone also said that the ZF5 42 which was used in the pre psd has a shorter input shaft than the 45, but they werent sure. I would hate to get it all torn apart and find out i have to go buy ZF5 45.

yea, idk, i know i want a 5 speed truck, and someone just gave me one, but that truck is hammered cuz they went to beating it with other cars and hammers and axes, but the driveterrain is rock solid, also, i was gunna wait till the automatic went out again, got 175 out of the first one, but today, i lost all gears past second, the computer says theyre trying to shift but there is nothing when it tries to go into third, i talked to a tranny guy and he said a valve in the valve body probably stuck, would anyone suggest getting a perfromace valve body, do they make them, or is it worth it?

I have the 5 speed and think its great! With a dirty air filter I get 20 mpg, I find first gear useless since it only does like 20kmph max. Standards are more fun so I think you should convert. My truck is basically stock no tune and I can get it to around 170kmph with 3.55 and 33"s it revs at around 2000rpm at 70mph but since its a tranny thread what does everyone think of the zf6?
