Question 97 F250 with Banks stuff?

As many of you know, I'm looking for another diesel truck. Well, in my search I found this 97 F250 Ext cab longbox 4x4 auto for $3500. From what I can tell from the ad(haven't talked to the guy yet) it sounds like it has the Banks Power Pack installed on it. Intercooler, turbine housing, 80hp chip, tranny module, and more. Truck currently has 247K miles and regular maintenance done. The tranny had been rebuilt right before installing the mods at 179K miles.

I was just wondering how good the Banks stuff actually is? I know its a big name and I've lots of comments on the stuff going both good and bad. I figured that if I can get the truck that when I could afford to, I'd pull the Banks chip and put in a TS style 6 position one.

I found a place that might be able to give me a loan(since the bank said no) and this place also sells repos and they have an 87 F250 IDI, but I'd rather get the PSD if I can.

Banks stuff works just as advertised, but the price is high.

Banks' negative reputation is from aftermarket competitors and their cheerleaders who feel Banks overcharges for the upgrades...the price to power ratio is higher with Banks.

Banks also used at one time a tagline something to the effect of "the only diesel performance company whose parts will not void your warranty" in their advertisements and also are unapologetic about their belief they are the best in the aftermarket power upgrade world.

Breeds dislike, but their stuff works and is pretty high quality. The items they made back in the day for the 1st Gen strokers is pretty good.

Gayle Banks is an absolute tool. Read the "banks intercooler group buy" over on the ORG. He's an a$$hat.

He may be a tool but his intercoolers and hard parts are top quality.

Yes this is true. A banks intercooler is the ONLY thing I'd consider buying from him though. But as per a phone conversation with one of the ORG's vendors, he intends to raise the price on said intercooler substantially because "he can" and "there's no other competition".

Well, him raising prices doesn't mean anything to me because his parts are already on the truck. I'm not buying any Banks parts. Chances are I'd leave the IC and turbo housing and switch out the electric parts when I have money for better stuff. I have gotten the impression over the years(since I got into diesels) that Gale is kinda full of himself and charges a premium for it now and that's why I was questioning the stuff on this truck. As long as it works like it supposed to, I have no problem running it for a while.

As for no other competition for ICs, I've seen other kits for 1st gen Strokers. I can't think of anyone off the top of my head that has them, but I do remember seeing them.

I'll be calling this financial place probably either Tuesday or Wednesday to see what I need to do about a loan. The bank turned me down because I don't have any credit. I don't know if this other place will be able to help me out or not either but its worth a shot.

Start looking for a co-signer brother!

If the banks stuff is already on the truck, just run it. But I *would* switch the chip out for abetter one then sell the banks chip.

There aren't any other ic kits that I know of, other rhan people fabbing up sd and 6.0 ic's.

I don't know anyone that will co-sign for me. My mom has crap credit because of medical stuff. My actual dad might as well be dead for as much of a "father figure" he is, I haven't even talked to him in a couple years. My best friend's dad, who I call my dad because he's the one that's pretty much been the father figure in the last 10 years of my life, won't do it because he has his own stuff to take care of plus the loan for my best friend/brothers 2010 ski-doo sled is in his name but my bro is making the payments. No one else in the family that I know who might even consider co-signing. I'm not in the best of situations which is why I usually end with piles of crap, like this Chevy I have now. All I can do is try and the worst they can do is say no.

Like I said, if I can get the truck, I'll run the Banks stuff and when I've got the extra cash I'll put on a different chip, probably from PHP. I wonder if the Banks tranny module will work with another companies chip. I'm not sure if they're even connected at all or if the tranny module is a stand alone unit.

PDR, ATS, and Hypermax make IC kits for 1st gen Strokers. I'm sure there might be others but those are the first few I found in a quick google search.

That sucks about the co-signer deal; I've never needed a co-signer until 2 years ago when I hit a crisis and needed a truck NOW. But that truck has since been sold, and I'm back to buying everything in cash. I hate loans and owing people money. It's taken a lot of work to buy a lot of the cars I have, but I'm damn proud to be where I am right now. Work work work!
And honestly I'd be much further ahead if my ex wife and ex gf didn't screw me over as hard as they did.

I would go w/ tw or beans or somebody else over php though.
