As some of you may have read my recent posts on obtaining a Ford F250 4X4 pickup. I was reading that certain Jeeps had a hydraulic engine cooling fan for the radiator and AC condensor. Does Ford or a aftermarket supplier make a package or assembly for Ford pickups? I like to add one to my F250.

Also can anyone recommend a good hydraulic winch** that works good with a F250 of a 1991 model year? I want mount on the front of the truck. **Will also consider a electric winch.

I dont think a hydraulic fan is a good idea on our trucks,

 

The hydraulic fan is done in the Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ. The advantage is that there is no motor which can wear out like the electric ones. Power steering pumps are incredible strong, so a hydraulic winch is also a good thing.

Why is a running motor a disadvantage? Electric winches and batteries will be drained within minutes so the difference is minimal- but hydraulic winches can work all day long where electric can't.

Yes, electric is cheap- but don't forget the batteries.
I worked a lot with hydraulic winches in the military, there is no disadvantage then the price. You get what you pay- and I feel safer with a hydraulic hose, then with a boiling battery and hot power cable routed across the metal frame.

Edit fan actuation is done via a thermal switch which activates the fan valve. simple and reliable.

 

why did you say so? do you have any bad experiences with this?
