Default how many is too many....

im from buffalo and in the market to buy a 98.5-02 cummins. unfortuanetly rust is a huge problem around here. well i found a dealership with quite a few southern trucks that are really clean and rust free. the problem is that i feel their prices are bit high even for how clean they are. also my main question is how many miles are too many for a cummins. the said dealership has 3 trucks with just shy off 300,000 miles, and are asking 12k-16k for them. i know that them being clean makes them worth a bit more. it just seams way to pricey. im not sure the rules of the site, but ill wait to post links till i find out its ok. anyways thanks for the help....

I'd say a million miles would be too many for the Cummins. Seems the Dodge falls apart around the Cummins, for the most part. Links are acceptable by all means, as long as they are relevant to the thread and of good taste.

is there anything that goes bad on the motor it self at that point, and thats the other thing im really afraid of, is what condition the truck is in. i was hoping any of the cummins guru's would be dodge excperts too since it happends to be the truck the engine comes in.

there are 3 trucks on there that i like 2 of which really scare me cause of mileage. i just dont know yet, if i will be over paying.... id love the red quad cab/ short bed with only 100k but idk if i wanna spend 18k. the other two im interested in are the other quad cab short beds, forest green and burgandy ones with ranch hand bumpers. i guess all im saying is that 14k seems a bit high for a 300,000 mille truck. again all the help is appreciated.....

I have 300,500 miles on my 2001 2500 and it's still going strong! Other then a few up keep things and a old gasket change it's been perfect! Ac is still cold and dash is still good. The best thing to do is get a car fax on it. Mine was 1,500 bucks when I bought it. It was a work truck for a company I work for and I'm tight with the boss man Any was I would of been stupid to turn that deal down and I aint ever going back to a gas burner! I LOVE THIS TRUCK! And that's coming from a die hard Ford guy

The engine goes for a long, long time. The prices seem hight to me, but I'm also in Canada where the prices are different.

looks to me like the blue ext cab long bed is the best buy of the bunch.... i bought basically an identical truck except shortbed for 14k.... 12k-14k seems more than reasonable to me for it...

I'd agree you should be able to buy those 01/02's for less than 14k, and those pre 00's for less than 12k for sure. I've had Dodge trucks go for over 500,000 miles and still be able to snap your head back in the seat. I've got an 04' Dodge 2500 ext 4x4 I'd sell for 14,500, if you're interested send me a pm and I'll get you the details.

those prices are insane i bought an 02 cummins quad cab long bed 5 speed with 113000 miles on it for just under 9000 and with the price of diesel fuel you might be better buying from a private seller since alot of people sell them when fuel prices goes up
hell for my 2006 loaded leather ranch and sun roof leather power everything 4x4 auto long bed the only thing this truck doesnt have is built in navigation i bought in dec of 2009 i didnt even pay over 18000 and it only had 130000 and a freshly rebuilt transmission and that was from the same dealership as the previous one shop around you can find better deals out there
