Question smoking like a train while towing/no power

hey guys im new here so bare with me, and try to help me...... have a 92 f250 7.3 idi non turbo, pulled about 10k yesterday up and down some mountains, and wow no power at all, and black smoke pouring out badly, would barely clear up on the straights going 65 mph. also it was running hot, never ran warm before... now i did just cut out the soup bowl, and cut a big opening in the front of the airfilter case, and did not put pack on the ducting..... sound wicked and power is great when not towing, but could it be taking in to much air? or does it have nothing to do with the problem at hand.... thanks for any help

black smoke is not getting enough air or to much fuel. how old are the injectors? also same for the pump? how many miles are on the truck?

if you have messed with your inj pump make sure your timing is not advanced, mine ran great with no load but when i put the fith wheel on no power and it would roll black smoke like a freight train and temp would climb. retarded the timing back form where prev owner had moved it and it was like a new truck. lots of power and much less smoke and temp didnt climb at all
