Default ford diesels

hey i hope this is in the right place but i am currently looking at a 84 ford escort hatchback 5speed with a 4 cylinder diesel i was just curious if anyone knew what kind of engines these had and if they have a good reputation thanks for any comments

im no help here. i didnt know ford had a diesel in the escort series back then. but here is a bump to the top

The Ford diesels were ok as long as you take care of the cam belt and pulleys. lso the Lucas pump will give you trouble if you start with additives in the 1.8TD. In fact this is their weak point.
The older Ford generations are not very famous in europe, we say they are a decade behind competition technology.
If you do not care about rust- (be careful with british made models!) go ahead.
