no black smoke
k just out of curiousity i turned up ip 1 flat on my 88 7.3 na with stock exhaust am mufflers reved it a couple times an nooooooo black smoke i dont have gauge i had to order it but wanted to see if it actualy smoke an it does not so what did i do wrong i turned it clockwise also like it says in sticky
well hacked off the big *** muffler an its straight piped nw sounds good but no black smoke need my egt gauge to get here so i can see what its running at cuz it up 1 flat an no smoke nw
well no smoke means not enough fuel so it dosnt make any diffrence what the egt is at the puiont. I can tell you that if there is not enough fuel to make smoke than its not going to make the egt's hot enough to bother anything. although the egt gauge is very good to have because these engines cannot handle much over 1,200 degrees for any extended peroid of time. more fuel = more heat& more power. you want black smoke then you have to overfuel it just a little.
