Default Police Auctions

Has anyone ever bought anything from a police auction? A buddy of mine told me about one that happens every week and that he had a buddy that bought a 93 Cummins dually with 209K miles that ran great for $500.

I've been thinking about checking this out since I'm still trying to replace my truck. Work has been slow the past couple months so I'm on a tight budget and I don't want to go back to a pile of crap gasser from craigslist.

Some friends of mine have bought cars from police auctions, but they were all for scrap since they were wrecked.

I work for a public auction company. Auctions can be a great place to pick up cars for cheap... As long as you know what you are looking for...

I know what kind of truck I'm hoping to find but I've never really been to an auction so I have no idea how they really work...

Most of the time, its just like any other auction, show up and bid, pay go home. Sometimes though they do more of a silent auction and take bids via the web or phone depending on your local department and what exactly they are selling.

Just gotta show up, register as a bidder, bid until you win, pay, and take your truck.

Not sure about your area but here in NY if you buy from an Impound auction you get a salvage certificate not a title, then you have to schedule a $200 state inspection and after that you can get a Salvage Title. It can still be a good deal just gotta know what you're gettin into ahead of time. I've bought 3 vehicles at police Impound auctions but never titled any of them, also bought an ex cop car in an online auction, be careful what you do with your credit card after a night of drinking is all I will say about that.
