Default SCT QUESTION

Ok, so do I have to buy a SCT 2006 f250 powerstroke specific tuner.
Or can I buy one that was originally for a mustang or a f150 with a gasser and still download costume tunes for my Powerstroke.

Id like to find this out myself.. Have a 03 stang and 07 f350. Was looking at the Trickflow SCT X3 for the stange. Then thought if it would also work on the 350 with downlaoded costom tunes?

I've let several cheap sct's go by on ebay for stangs and I really wish I could figure this out. The ones I see that say powerstroke go for almost new price.

Any SCT X-cal2, X-cal3, or anything will work, the key here is to make sure the previous owner has returned it to "stock" otherwise you have to pay to send it in and get it unlocked. Also you need to make sure there are "unlocks" left on it.

The only one I'm not sure about is the SF3's because those hold canned tunes too, and those are vehicle specific. If you get an X-cal, they ONLY hold custom tunes so there is no chance of you messing that up.

Each SCT product will Vin Lock to a vehicle. So once it's put on a mustang, it is tuned to that mustang and can only be on that car. The owner can set it back to stock and then send it to you for you to use, as you load it to your truck, one of the "unlocks" is erased. Each different vechile will take another unlock. They come with 5 unlocks from the factory. Just make sure it's stock and there are unlocks left, then you can order tunes from anyone and load them on.

Answer your questions?

Depends who you get it from and if it's a lifetime tune or a one time tune. One time works for any amount of time, unless you change trucks, your truck gets flashed, or you add more parts, then you need new tune.

Eric @ Innovative sells tunes for $65 a piece, $80 for extreme and a bundle of 3 for $165. I think there are less expensive options, but Eric is the shiz. Usually has tunes back to you in less than 24 hours if they need tweaking or anything like that, and his tunes flat out ROCK.

Nice! You'll love it! Now comes the difficult choice... who's tunes to go with! haha, I've tried several, haven't really been dissatisfied with any though. Eric @ Innovative is usually quickest turn-around.

I wouldn't use a tune that has "will roll some coal but is not nearly as fast as the Bazooka, it's more show than go." in its ad. But that's just me.

My X-3 pn 3000 supports most Fords. Go to sctflash.com and look at some of the owner's manuals they have on line, they spell out what vehicles are supported by that unit.
