Default Starter whirring - won't start

Went out to start my truck this evening, starter just made a loud whirring sound like it wasn't engaging anything, just spinning freely.

Is there anything other than replacing the entire starter motor I can do, truck is stranded at school.

I don't have time to order a starter kit right now, I need to get the truck out of the parking lot today or tonight.

Hit the starter with a hammer or flat tow it in neutral to a place to work on. Doing it in the parking lot isnt going to be fun

Nope, sure isn't. I'm going to go hit it with a hammer in a minute to see if I can get it to work, then drive to my shop.

You dont have to get contacts from Larry B - although his are the supersize version....You should be able to get contacts from an electrical parts/starter shop

Found the problem... sadly I feel stupid, it was pouring the rain so I forgot to check... the starter bolts had rattled out.. and it was hanging / like that, not making contact.. tightened it up and it was fine!

I hate bad weather.
