alright the guy selling it pretty much gave me the whole life story of the truck last night and it seems the heaviest thing it's pulled is a car trailer and that was only for a couple months

Tell him not to start it before you get there and see how it starts cold, assuming its cold where you live. Then after you can get a good feeling about motor health by taking off oil fill cap, turn it over and lay it over hole. If the pressure blows cap off its not a good sign. should be just a little pressure. Find a diesel shop around you and see how much to put their scanner on it. That can tell you if it have injector or HPOP pressure issues which are couple more expensive repairs.
Check tires, if there wore all screwy the front end may need some work. A big thing with me was I had to have 4.10 gears for towing, if your not towing I would prefer 3.55 but thats an opinion. I always look at oil filters, if its a cheap POS then the guys an idiot and that determines my offer.
Your gonna have to work on old trucks, fact. But batteries, cables, glow plugs, tires, water pump for leaks, belts, check engine valley for fuel leaks, crawl underneath and look for manifold and uppipe leaks. All this adds up quick and then factor modifications it needs.

well i ended up getting the truck and now I've decided im not a ford person at all so gonna try and trade it with someone. it starts like you'd expect cold no leaks besides what you'd see under any older diesel engine all the trac bars and all that stuff is nice and straight.. scared the crap out of me this morning i found out there is a gap or hole or something between the turbo and the dp when i went to start it this morning and white smoke came out from under the hood but other than just a few things like the door handle on the inside of the driver door needing to be tightened up everything else is good on it

buyers remorse, but now you're stuck until you can sell the 7.3 You could miss a good deal on a DODGE, cause you don't have the money now
