I was letting my 97 powerstroke warm up about this morning and it's been starting hard. I walked out to leave and there was a consistent drip coming down and about 6 oz. if fuel on the ground after about 5 min. It looks like it's comming down some where above/at the starter? I dont exactly know I had to get the bicycle out so I could make it to work... Any ideas what I should look for when I get home?

check the lifter valley, it is probably full and leaking out the drain hole at the back of the motor. could be the fuel pump or lines in the valley.

 

More then likely its the fuel bowl drain valve... But yes, its leaking down the back of the motor...

 

Ok im new to diesels and for the last 3 years I've been building air cooled vw's what's the fuel bowl drain valve(sounds like it's exactly what it sounds like, but I gotta ask) and what's the damage to the wallet to fix it?

Well I found a great tech article on how to do the repair and found some high quality o rings for cheap. I'll keep everyone posted on if that was the problem

 

Open and close the valve a few times, it might stop leaking for a bit so your not on the bike...LOL

 

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. i'll check that out on my truck. it leaks a good amount of fuel, but only when it is facing down hill. i thought it was the lines so i replaced all of them. but it didn't fix it.

 

Yeah no sh*t I like to think of ut as me going green haha

Would this valve leak while I was driving?

 

If its not the fuel bowl drain off check your return lines on the back of the heads. This is a little less common, but sometimes they will leak.

 

Another OBS problem can be pitting/leaking of the fuel filter bowl itself. There's a fair bit of documented issues with that.
