Default short trip

I am new to the Duramax family and have a question about my drive during the week, my drive is around 6miles or 10 kilometers to work and the engine gets up to operating temp on the factory gauge about 3/4 of the way on my commute. Are these new diesel trucks better suited for daily drivers ? is it going to cause any grief not towing heavey loads all the time? I did buy it as we load up with dirt bikes, quads and tow a light 4thousand pound trailer during spring and summer every second weekend. I know a half ton gasser would do but love the power on tap idea and a larger trailer is in our future. Any input is greatly appreciated just want to know if I am hurting my baby.
