Default smelly cab and truck

I have a 2007 new body style Duramax. Why is it that every 1000 miles or so it idles just a tad higher, I start to smell diesel in the cab as well as outside the truck, and my fuel mileage drops from 15 or so miles to the gallon to 11 or worse? Please help.

Well somebody was telling me that's what the new diesels do to burn off all the stuff inside? It gets real hot to do a burn off and then it goes back to normal? Does this sound right?

I got a Superchips Cortex tuner for my truck... Is this a good tuner for an 07 Duramax?

In my opinion, I would have looked into the ppe xcelerator or h&s black maxx or mini maxx, or edge or efi live. I think that those tuners would give you more options when it comes to future mods. Plus superchips wont disable your regeneration cycles and wont allow you to delete your dpf or egr.
