Default 97 3/4 ton turbo

so i had a buddy give me a turbo off a 97 pick up, and i was wanting ta know how i know if its good or not, both wheels spin, theres no chips or dings or cracks in em, so any help would be awesome!!!!

no i no it wont, im just wondering if its worth keep it and try and sell it or just scrap it out, thats why i was wondering how i could tell if its any good, that and im wanting ta learn all this stuff, so i figured its a way for hands on learning

Check the end play of the shaft. It should be between .001" and .004" end play. That's in and out on the shaft. It is normal to have some up and down and side to side, just no significant in and out. If that's good and the compressor wheel looks good it's most likely ready to go.

so do i have ta pull it apart ta check this or just the opened end of both wheels?
