Started trying to pull the drivers side bearing/hub assembly on my 2001 ram 2500 4x4. This has turned out to be one heck of a job. Me and a buddy went at it with a air hammer (snap on air hammer at that, its got major *****!), 3 lb mallet, sledge hammer, from every angle possible. heated it, soaked it with PB Blaster, got it soaking in deep creep now. I made a puller and all if did was completely bend the 1/4" thick steel into a nice little curved shape that I no longer have any use for and stripped the threads off of a grade 8 bolt.

We literally spent 5 hours putting force on this thing and NOTHING!

What have you guys had to do to get these things removed? MAN, this is a real pain and my truck is dead in the water until i get my new bearing/hub on the truck! And to top it all off, my trucks parked in a very awkward spot for the neighbors to maneuver around!

I've almost considered trying to cut this thing off some how, as I've got a plasma cutter capable of handling steel this size, but I dont want to mess anything up. thoughts???

I went through the same thing about 2 months back. I used a chisel and a hammer and just started beating on it all the way around. I was in the same boat you are I heated it, used a air chisel, soaked it, everything. it took a while but persistence payed off. Get a fairly sharp chisel so you can actually get in between to start breaking it lose and just keep going around it. Thats what I had to do. Good Luck to ya. Hopefully some one has a better way

yep, i used the hydraboost too, worked sweet.

 

i replaced ball joints and wheelbearings and rotors within 5 hours does a 98.5 have a diff set up then a 98?
