Default NV4500 Rebuild Questions

I'm going to rip out my tranny here next weekend and we will be rebuilding it - thanks to whitmore for the information I got the main shaft I need (5th gear failure) but since we are going to have it apart I'm going to walk through it - why not I'm going to be right there...

We pulled the rear cover off to see what damage was done to 5th because when it failed it make a heck of a racket. In our mini inspection we found that a could of teeth are broken off the counter gear.

anyhoo I got a question.

which on of these will I need

or

I thinking the 5.61 ratio on but not sure. Looking at their ads I see where both trannies carry the same casting number and the teeth count is the same along with the diameter.

Travis check out www.quad4x4.com - he has parts and even sell videos that show you how to rebuild.

Might not be the cheapest - but top notch stuff for sure.

Measure the diameter of yours. One is 6 1/4 the other 6 1/2. Everytime I tried to get parts from Quad he told me he didnt have what I needed. This is were all my parts came from when i had mine done.www.standardtransmission.com

yep quad 4x4 doesn't have much in stock at all, and haven't in a while so he pretty has gotten written off at this point. You are correct he's not the cheapest - heck he is the highest priced guy around - even higher than the local job shops here in fort wayne.

Dazed - I was trying to avoid pulling apart again before yanking it totally out of the truck.

I went with Quads stuff when we rebuilt mine. I set the video up right in front of the bench and paused in between each step as we did it. That was a first attempt at tranny work and it came out great, still drivin it 3 years later. The mainshaft you get from Dan at Quad, you can't get anyplace else. He holds the patent on it. He sells cheaper ones also but his own personal shafts are a never fail.

I am using an updated one but not the bullet proof one that he sells - I figured that the stock one lasted 250k miles and let's be truthfull if I make another 250k by then I won't own the truck as it is... So I won't realize the total benefit of the high dollar one. I have no desire to keep this truck for eons I'm looking at get me by for 4 more years (less if the body shows any signs of rust) then I'll get a newer one.

I'm having my nephew do the rebuilding - he is a mechanic at a Dodge Dealership so I know it will be right I'm just trying to gather all the parts up before he shows up so that it's all ready to go for him - he drinks too much beer to have him stand around for very long or to make two trips up... dang kids - that's my job... I would liek to have manual in hand just to sort of follow along.

It's hard to say what your gonna need till your in there and see what's broke and worn. In my case I bought everything that dan said might be needed and then he let me return what didn't get used.
