Question Motor Swap

Hey everyone my names dan. i dont own a diesel yet but i am wanting to swap my engine for a 12v cummins. my question for everyone is that my truck is a 2001 chevy HD reg cab longbed 4x4, its got the vortec 8100 (496ci)gas motor with a 6 speed manual, what i need to know is if the bell housing for a dodge 6 speed will bolt up to my tranny i know the 5 speeds are interchangable but havent heard of anybody performing the motor swap with a six speed cause i would like to keep my tranny. So any help would be appreciated.

thanks dhgreen

it should be a ZF6 if im correct, if thats the case, ford uses the same tranny in there trucks so the ford adapter should work fine, you would just need probably a different starter, possibly a ford one, as for the motor fitting it should be fine, check out this place

If the ZF6 is the same as the old GM bolt pattern on the bellhousing you can get the plate to mate a Gm trans to a Cummins through Cummins. The old Bread trucks ran Cummins with 400turbo's behind them.
