Default Anyone familiar with 87 3.0L SDL?

Does anyone know if the 1987 3.0L SDL has mechanical injection pump and does it have an electronic controlled automatic transmission?I'm looking to swap this into a Blue Max Cougar and I wanna keep it as simple as possible.

That OM603.961 engine has mechanical injection, the injection pump does have provision for electronic idle control, which could be swapped from the donor car. Or you can set the idle mechanically. There's a rack position sensor but that's an output (for emissions junk) and not required.

It is a full mechanical transmission (no electronic controls besides the kickdown solenoid, which is a simple +12v signal). However a modulated vacuum signal is needed from the IP to indicate throttle position for shift firmness. Not a problem as long as you keep the engine, tranny, and IP together as a package.

Thanks. That's good info.My plan was to keep the motor and tranny together.Since my Cougar is almost 4000lbs and the Benz in roughly the same weight,I see no reason to separate the two. They last a long time in the Benz, should last a long time in my Cougar.I only use it for traveling on vacation.

I didn't get the car.The guy had put it on ebay and refused to take it off, even after I offered him cash at his asking price of $600.Needless to say it sold yesterday.Still looking at a OM617 or 603.

Let me fill in for anyone else who is looking at an 86+ Mercedes diesel, the early engines suffered head failures, cracks, and heads are hard to find, do some research to see if the car/engine you are looking at has the newer updated head, or you could be looking at a $2500 bill to rectify the problem later!
