Just looking to see if anyone has a good trick for drilling into the exhaust manifold with it installed. One that will keep metal flecks from going in while drilling and tapping.

Any ideas how large of particle is ok to go thru the exhaust side of the turbo?

I really don't want to take it off but it seems like the smart thing to do.

was thinking, keep truck running and rig a vacuum cleaner around the drill bit and tap but thats goign to be a pain in the ***. not to mention hot *** exhaust coming out while trying to tap isn't a real pleasant thought.

Any ideas would be apreciated.

 

use a flat round magnet with a hole in it for drill bit and tap.

 

you can drill most of the way thru with the truck off. once you get close, turn the truck on, put grease on the drill bit, and CAREFULLY go thru. the pressure in the manifold will shoot the chips out--oh yeah, wear gloves and long sleeves!

shut 'er down, grease up the tap, and tap it out. that should keep all of the chips out. but i run a magnet into the hole anyways, i've never gotten anything with it, but it never hurts.

 

leave the truck running and put a lot of grease on the drill bit and tap as well. that should pretty well keep you from getting any shavings down in there

Where glasses too. The flecks kinda fly around and ive got in my eye it sucks
