Default Cheap cummins engine or not

Is it a deal to get a 96 completely rebuilt 12 valve for 4800 or should I try and work him down? It does not have a core charge and it has the pump and everything on it too.

rebuilt by who?

Sounds like a lot of money to me. Rebuilt with what kind of parts?

Again, sounds a bit on the pricey side to me.

I'm not for sure who rebuilt it, some machining shop my guess but it has all factory cummins parts put back in it, here you can take a look at it 1996 Dodge Ram 5.9L Cummins Diesel Reman Engine : eBay Motors (item 320526866277 end time May-13-10 19:24:30 PDT)

Honestly, that's not a terrible price in my mind for a "zero mile" (figuratively) motor...and low mile p-pump motors are not easy to find, depending where you are. Granted, if you just HAVE to have a Cummins, there ARE cheaper options...but price and engine wear are often an inverse function of eachother, for example - lower miles = higher price.

The phrase that catches my eye is "built for an auto", and the fact that the "auto" spec engine is at $4000 while the "manual" ones are $6000. I find that curious in a way...but that's just me...

So you think its a good deal I thought it was kind of pricey to but I also plan on writing it off on the farm so it won't cost me that much in the end, why would it be cheaper for the auto version?

May not be so bad of a deal. Are they local to you? Wonder if they would let you do a leakdown test?

if it was myself i would get all the info on the rebuilders it dont matter what the price is if it seizes a piston or something at a 1000 miles if they are liget and if they have a good reputation and do good work then its worth it
