Hi guy's I am new here but old to the ford diesel.And am about to lose it with the old girl. After replacing all the shade tree stuff I have come to conclusion that I have no fuel pressure. This is the 95 PS Turbo with the fuel pump in the block valley. Truck was hard to start one night ,After 8-10 cycles of glows it fired and ran me home a 100 miles just fine until I was 2 miles from house .Suddenly bogged down then picked back up ,made it to house just fine. And has not started since. As stated barely a trickle at shrader valve. All help would be greatly appreciated and I will finish thread. I just finished reading a 150 of them and most dont include finale diag. Geez,whats up with that

How did you diagnose no fuel pressure?

 

Fuel bowl is not filling and there is no pressure on the shrader valve.Complete pump failure? Due to the way problem occurred,I just cant figure pump. The cross over tank solenoid is working.

 

Well, the mechanical pump could have failed, or in an extremely rare case the lobe on the camshaft may have gone flat, but I doubt that. Also, check your return flow and see if maybe the pump is flowing, but not building pressure due to excessive return flow.
Do you have any fuel in the valley?
Also, you could have an air leak causing you to loose prime. There is nothing to bring the fuel up from the tank except the suction of the mechanical pump, so if there is a loss of prime it may only move air. . . . .

 

I will take a look at that line vacuum issue. You can see that valley has had some fuel in there but after draing bowl all that fuel runs down thru valley so i will check lines. Thank you and will return replys.

Like Diesel Nut said, if the line from the tank has a spot that lets it pull air, it'll never pull fuel.

 

I checked out the fuel lines and all is well up to the point where the short rubber sections are .They were in very poor shape so I have replaced 2 of them but not the one that runs to bottom of fuel pump.As engine is turned over you can see that pump is barely pushing fuel and it has a lot of air bubbles "Very small" Does the bottom fuel line that goes to pump supply fuel to bowl heater? If looking at mounted pump from front of truck I understand that the top right line is supply? It is looking like a failed pump though. I have read some threads about those giving up relatively early. And I am a t 170,000. Thank you again D-Bombers,I'll keep you posted!

 

I would suspect the fuel pump or a fuel line blockage. Do you run the tanks empty quite often?

One thing I would do is try blowing some compressed air thru the fuel lines, both the return and supply. I doubt this is it, with the dual tanks and there both doing it I would still say dead fuel pump.

 

I never run them under a 1/4 and frequently use tank switch.I'm pretty sure that the pump is failure point. I will let you know. Thanks again for your reply's.
