While corn ethanol dominates the current biofuel market, the future of clean liquid-energy looks more likely to be found floating on ponds than growing in fields.


Algae-derived biofuels have garnered a lot of attention and investment over the past year due to their potential market-disrupting economics, even if they have become more common in research labs.

 

i've read a little about this subject and if it catches on it will be hard to stop because of its low cost and pretty much maintenance free way of growing it at least thats what i got out of the article i read now that i read this piece if it acts the sme as diesel wont it put the same so called polutions in the air as the diesel we use now

 

I would think whatever it puts into the air, would be somewhat bio still, and would break down naturally ... Whatever the case, it would be probably be 75% cheaper, and we wouldn't have to rely on the crude (no pun intended) oil practices and dependance

We'll have plenty of algea in the Gulf of Mexico after the oil is gone, cause it will be the first thing back and with nothing alive to eat it, it should be outta control in a few years.

As far as polution goes I'd bet on the same amountish as current fuels. One they probably won't refine it anymore than they have to, and two it's carbon based same as oil. i'm not sure which particular carbon chains either are but in the atmospher they probably would act similar.

 

part of the "green" of using algae diesel is that it doesn't require near as much energy to make it, because it doesn't need cracked.

 

I think we should all put our heads together and figure out how to make Bio fuel out of sewage, then we could all live like fat cats like the Saudi's

 

algae bio diesel produces less carbon, no SO2, and lower NOX.

 

I would rather the government invest money in Algae this instead of throwing it away on Ethanol as it lowers your mpg.

 

currently ethanol has a higher gallons out vs. gallons in ration. but I think that is mostly based on corn.
