Default Opinions on transmissions

After finding part of my overdrive retainer ring (or whatever it's actually called) in my trans pan when changing fluid I think it's time to pull it out and have it gone through or changed completely. I called and had a few price quotes of around $7000 for a complete trans, and it's about what I expected. Now to the questions. What brand do you guys hear the best things about? Goerend, Garmon, Suncoast, ATS, NADP, DTT, etc... Next question is say I had to locally rebuilt what parts should I order to have put in it to handle 600HP (my end goal)? I only want to have to pull it out once.

Suncoast and Goerend is what I hear about the most. I sale more Suncoast than any. If you have someone local do it get a Suncoast VB, TC, Extreme Rebuild Kit and Billet Shafts.

Go with Goerend! Customer service is top notch! Dave will also hook you up with all the parts if you do it local. He knows what you need and then some! Be careful with sun toast parts are good but customer service is non existant! In other words they don't care what your problem is once they have your money!

Sounds like you broke the OD Direct Snap Ring. We have found a couple of those. If you are in a pinch you can just overhaul the OD. The last 2 we did there was still enough snap ring in the groove to hold the clutch pack together, so no real damage. Just replaced the snap ring after a full inspection.

As for your question on transmissions, we sell and install HTS and Goerend for Dodges, as well as build in house.

I see HTS is a little more reasonably priced. That local trans house quoted me $6000 to do the whole job, but he wouldn't tell me where he was getting the parts (just his 'supplier'). I like to know what I'm getting.

The piece of the snap ring was small, and everything seems to be acting fine still. The trans pan was as clean as any I've seen even compared to brand new stuff. I'm not too worried yet about it. Of course if I'm getting laid off like I was told then none of this really matters
