Can I get rid of my used engine oil by adding it to diesel fuel?

Adding used engine oil to diesel fuel used to be a common practice. However, it almost certainly results in a blend that does not meet diesel fuel specifications. One or more of these properties may be too high: 90% boiling point, sulfur content, ash, water and sediment, viscosity, and carbon residue. A diesel fuel/used oil blend may not be sold as diesel fuel, and we recommend against using it as a diesel fuel.
In California, addition of used engine oil to diesel fuel is a violation of hazardous waste regulations. Diesel fuel users in other areas who may consider this practice should check for any applicable regulations

Besides plugging, gelling, and buggering with a common rail application this is just bad practise.

 

I burn 1200 to 1400 gal of used oil in my waste oil heater every winter. Keep 8000 sq nice and warm. Have a Reznor unit.

Would NOT burn it in my truck.

 

Im with you. But, I have no trouble throwing in some fresh 2 cycle or 30 wt non detergent in the tank.

 

There are many individuals who have experimented with numerous types of oils with great results. The best seem to be 2 stroke oil and hydraulic oil. RTToys has a crane truck that ran like hell and got horrible mileage. The injector balance rates were all over the place. After adding 1 gallon of used engine oil the truck gained a significant amont of power, 2 more MPG's, and steady balance rates. He was now able to pull one more gear on a hill when he couldnt before. Many others have reported similar results and better with 2 stroke oils and hydraulic oils. A diesel engine will burn any light hydrocarbon easily. As long as the mixture isnt extreme you wont have any issues. We have ranch trucks that are over 20 years old and have well over 400K on them that burn a 10% oil mix in the summer and a 5% oil and 5% gasoline mixture in the winter that still run strong.

According to Cummins, Yes! It's ok in the 12v & 24v as long as it's filtered. Common rail 24v, No! I read somewhere that cummins actually recommended it. I've ran 2-stroke in my 2nd and 3rd gen and have been very happy.

i tryed it, all it did it stain my fuel filter black and make a mess trying to pour it into my tank, i will stick with 2 stroke oil, i do burn it in my new holland tractor, she loves it, smokes a little but runs fine
