new truck questions
Hi guys, new to this site and new too chevy's.
Just bought a 07 duramax with alli. Its a work truck with a power vac built on the truck so I won't be racing this truck. I don't know anything about duramax's so what are the basic things I need or should do if any?
thanks

Now about your questions, I will leave those to another more Dmax oriented member! I have a great friend with an 06 which he loves, and he has done very little. We have some Dmax guys here who will chime in and answer your questions!
Have fun and congrats on the new truck!

rmeyer I changed the oil and gear oil 1500-3000 miles, I used 75-80W gear oil from the dealer( that is referred to as grape juice for its odor) this of course is a expensive synthetic oil. You do want to use synthetic because of the locking differential. I know a lot of guys that use Mobil synthetic and have had good results. After that I change the engine oil every 5000 miles. You may want to look at blocking the EGR valve and putting a finger stick on, this aloows you to send the Ecm the code for blocking the EGR valve. The purpose of blocking the EGR valve is to keep all the soot from the exhaust out of your motor. This sooot over time will clog your EGR valve. Its just cheap peace of mind this kit with the blocker plate usually runs a round $50.00. If you are wanting to do a bunch of mods the list is longer than the average guys walit is deep. Good luck and let me know if I can help answer any other questions
Congrats on the new truck. They do look nice. Still partial to the previous body style but it's growing on me
Agree with the synthetic in the diff. Another good brand availabe! I might wait until 5000-15000 miles or so to make sure the initial break in is done, depending on how driving. I have an article about it here: https://www.dieselbombers.com/amsoil/1403-tech-bulletin-differential-oil-change-after-break.html
Now a question about EGR. I don't have to worry about this yet, but that seems like a nice option(blocking). For you newer Dodge owners, is this an option for you?
I'm guessing there may be warranty problems with that????
Curious

I have the 07, pretty sure its still the older body style. I think they changed 07 1/2. Not sure what or where the egr valve is. I'm a dodge guy so this is all new to me. I have a 05 cummins too. Would have got the dodge but the 48re wouldn't handle the pto.
thanks for the help.
thanks for the help.
The one thing that i have read over and over is to change the fuel filter often. I will be changing mine every other oil change. I'm going to use a gm filter so there will be no question on warranty if a problem should come up. Enjoy the new truck, i know i love mine.
yes change the fuel filter every other oil change. very cheap insurance. as far as the egr vavle, the early ones had some issues but so, knock on wood, the redesign seems to be holding up ok. or atleast in our area. or like buckeye said, you can buy urself a blocker plate when it fails and ur out of warranty.
