Default Stumbling/Running rough

I had this in my other thread, but no answers, so hoping it's own thread will be better.

95 Ram 3500.

When the engine is cold, it doesn't want to rev smoothly. idles fine, WOT is fine, but anything over around 1800rpm it sputters, pops, and smokes out the yard.

Once it's warmed up to operating temps it's better, but still doesn't seem 100%. Fuel filter is new and I cleaned out the strainer.

I'm going to check the timing tomorrow and try to get a fuel pressure guage as well. Other than that, am I missing anything?

does it sputter white smoke or black smoke? on the p7100 pump you can remove the over flow valve remove the spring and measure it should ne .5in if it is not in spec stretch it to .5in make sure not to loose the check ball. If you have to stretch it our means the spring is weak and should get a new one but there about 70bucks. Check fuel pressure from the lift pump. I just had a truck do the same thing the other day. Also check timming.

your sucking air somewere.. mine did the exact same. check the fuel lines.. my trouble ended up being between the frame rails and the fuel tank. swapped them out for some rubber.... never happened again. hope this helps.

Did yours do it only when cold? It seems to run ok when it's warm which I don't get.

My timing set was supposed to be in today (2nd day air shipping) but it never showed up, so going to have to wait till next week I guess.

Sounds like a typical diesel to me.
